The damages—“Yelp!”, anonymous sites on the interenet, and what people believe.

A dog grooming client I had not seen in just over a year called me to groom her dog.

Last year, she googled (key words) dog groomer Chicago Miniature Schnauzer show grooming and found my single web page (embedded in another web page).

This year,  by Googling me, she found the  petition to have me banned from Craigslist (It has been up over 4 years.  I’ve signed it 3 or 4 times, my friends have signed it—there is no author or monitor…so it is going….nowhere)  and many libelous comments.

“Robyn, they are terrible!  Why are people posting this?”

So, I explained  about how I refused to work for Dan London, Doggie Bath House, back in 2008 (he has a ridiculous WORDPRESS  post up about what  a liar and mental idiot I am—but, for some reason, has never posted anything else…I can only think that I really aggravated him before he WENT OUT OF BUSINESS….) and between him and the pet brokers who use Craigslist to sell…

“But that’s not allowed, is it?” she asked.

“Well, no, it isn’t, but  if you can’t find a lawyer to sue them, and a subpoena alone costs $5000, and even if I find out who they are, so what, they have no money, so they are not worth suing.   So, by not enforcing the law, that makes it—libel— ‘legal’ .   Do you know how much illegal activity happens over the internet because the laws are not enforced?  The government is broke.   These people are making money selling animals, but not a living….  & it’s legal.” By warning people that the breeders who use Craigslist to sell, I am cutting into their  extra income.

I am in Chicago, & I told her that one of the brokers has posted as far away as Texas.  They called Paradise4Paws and threatened  the manager, Linda Lee, with death.  I didn’t know that until they fired me, and neither did the business owner…but the owner,  Saq Nadeem, told me he would pursue these people, and he did not. I don’t know  who all was calling, and harassing them, but he knew it was Dan London calling him when he first hired me, & he even had  his phone numbers.  Saq’s strategy was to ignore the guy, so  Dan London made sure he would not be ignored.  Meanwhile, Saq continues to open new branches of his kennel, because his business  plan and formula are good ones. But this is not the issue. Saq is not the target—-I am.

I told the client that there is one  ‘rescue’ in Clifton Illinois.  She calls herself Poyner Pet Rescue.  She is a puppy mill breeder among other puppy mill breeders, & ‘rescues’ the dogs her fellow ‘farmer wives’ breed & can’t sell, & will also take  puppies and purebred adult dogs from area pounds &  post them on http://www.adopt-a-pet.com .  Several of us have told http://www.adoptapet.com  she is not a bona fide rescue.  By Illinois law, she is supposed to  include shots & neutering in the fees, and she does not, & Dr. Ernst won’t shut her down—she is a licensed breeder.

I am not saying licensed breeders can’t do rescue—but they do it with a bona fide group.  It’s the puppy mills that get away with this scam.

I told my client how Dan London and his friends had posted fake reviews on “Yelp!”   My client had never heard of  Yelp!.  I told her it was a site that you can review businesses.   It doesn’t matter if you are a client of the business.  Many of the bad reviews are from competitors.   I often check the reviews. Sometimes they are accurate, sometimes not.  Any slick business owner can get his friends to post reviews of his business, and also get his friends to slam  competing businesses.  Dan London had called several of the businesses I worked for besides Paradise4Paws and claimed I had injured his (dog, cat), & the  managers were looking all over for client records—that did not exist—because this guy was not a client.  Illegal?  Only if you have the money to sue the bastard.  Unethical?  This is capitalism.  It was legal for years for banks to tell people they could afford homes they could not afford.  Really.

“Aren’t you worried about your reputation?”  she asked?

“Yes and no.   As I said, Craigslist would tell me who the posters are if I can get a subpoena.  Like I said…even if I did find a lawyer, these people have NOTHING. They are breeding animals to sell—like livestock—for supplemental income. They  can’t support themselves by working real jobs.  The irony is, that if the state would enforce the laws, and Dr. Ernst at the Illinois Department of Agriculture wouldn’t rely on voluntary compliance and, instead,  fine these people who are out of compliance, the  department could more than break even on fines and make a dent in the number of animals killed in shelters, but it is not a priority.

I mean…are you aware that the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has at least 10 sattelite offices in foreign  countries to encourage investment in Illinois?  Johannesburg, Jerusalem, Mexico City, Warsaw,  at lest 1 in China, and there was 1 in India.  When the best thing you can say about Pat Quinn is he’s not  a Republican…”

“Yeah, George Bush did a real number on this country,”  she said.

She made an appointment for the dog and  is now a bit more skeptical about how  business works.

Wow. This disturbed me. After finding puppies on adopt a pet that were listed by Poyner Pet Rescue,I called and was able to speak with Christine and set up a time to come adopt one of the pups. After feeling a little uneasy with a couple of things i googled the rescue and found your WordPress article. How can you confirm your info on them is correct? Any additional info you have about this rescue and how you found this all out exactly would be appreciated.

  2. In agreement Says:

I’ve had dealings with Poyner Pet rescue, and would not recommend it. Poyner does not offer spay neuter services for the puppies she sells, but claims to have a strict contract. I’d rather not have my identity known, because of the extensive problems I had with this woman so I will not provide any details about my personal adoption experience from her. But she goes out of her way to rescue puppies then charge exorbitant prices on mixed breed puppies because she feels they are “worth it”. She has also created and maintains a Do Not Adopt group on facebook where she has spread her libel to the limits. I’m not sure if she is a mill, but does tend to offer the same breed of puppies time and time again. If you disagree with her, or say anything publicly about her, your name gets added to the list of people she has deemed to be unfit for adoption, and she will drag your name through the mud. I wish I had known about her before I adopted from her, I would have saved myself a great deal of trouble.

Please do not allow Christina Poyner to sell puppies on this site.

Christina Poyner is a “Licensed Animal Rescue” scammer!! I was looking for a puppy, something to fill the void after losing our 13yr old Chocolate Lab a week ago. She swore the puppy was fine, and that all she would need is to be “fattened” up explaining how she was the runt and was bullied away from the food bowl. She gave me the puppies so-called vaccination records to show she was cared for properly. The puppy she sold me was so beyond ill. She wouldn’t eat. She discharged blood from both the bladder and bowel. I purchased the puppy in good faith and like any loving and caring new owner, I took my new pup to the vet. As the Vet walked into the exam room, the moment her eyes saw our little pup, her head and shoulders dropped. She examined our new baby and told us the puppy aside from being extremely malnourished (2.31 lbx) was infested with worms, had the Parvovirus, kennel cough and to try and save her would cost $300 to thoroughly diagnose and up to $1000 dollars between the hospital stay, IVs, and meds to even try to get the puppy over the poor health hump with no guarantees. Our new puppy is no longer with us BECAUSE OF CHRISTINA POYNER OF KANKAKEE, IL!! Her so called vaccination sheet was another LIE! She knew she sold me a very sick puppy and she purposely avoided any contact with me. Emails sent were never responded to, phone calls just dropped, no voicemail recording to leave a message. Yet, when I called from another phone or had a family member call, they did in fact get the opportunity to leave a message. Christina Poyner is a cold-hearted, scamming, COWARD!! I will make it my personal mission to shut her down! I have reported her to the Humane Society, the Kankakee County Animal Control, and the Dept of Agriculture. I am contacting each and every place where she has posted advertisements of puppies for adoption. Then, I plan to seek legal advice on suing her for the heartache, distress and financial loss this has caused my daughter and I. This puppy was supposed to bring joy to our lives after losing our 13yr old companion, and now it has only caused more heartache. Those poor animals in her supposed “care” are in grave danger, and I for one will not sit back and let her victimize another dog or another potential dog owner!!!

    Christina Poyner IS A MONSTER!!!

Here is a response from the Humane Society’s Amanda Grossom:

“I was able to find more information about Christina Poyner. As you mentioned, there are petitions and reviews online. I was also able to find that she had applied for a kennel license in Iroquois County in 2010, but was denied. She created a blog to defend herself and spoke about the zoning board denying a license. She remains licensed in the state of Illinois as an Animal Shelter though, so you could file a complaint with the IL Department of Agriculture. She has several different phone numbers and also goes by the name Paws and Claws Pet Rescue. I also noticed that she posts puppies on Facebook groups, besides Craigslist and other classifieds sites.”
I will attach a copy of the vet report as well.

  5. juggalo0411@yahoo.com Says:

This so called “breeder” on Craigslist, sold me a “8 week old kitten” turns out she was 4 weeks old and she was the “runt” of the litter, after being off of the mommies nipple she started having diarrhea, blood in her bowel, and was extremely lethargic, we only had her for 3 days and I tried contacting the lady who gave me her to get her back on her mommies nipple and she blocked my calls and everything! I got her December 26th and she just passed away last night): We tried bottle feeding her and she just wasn’t taking it.. Christina Poyner is a monster!

  6. Steve Jensen Says:

So sad that this continues. Can anything be done to stop heartbreak and animal abuse?

  7. TSull Says:

This just absolutely makes me sick to my stomach. I wanted to adopt a dog from her and decided to do some research. So glad that I did, but my heart aches for those poor dogs in her care.
